Aaron Bastani ‘Netanyahu has done more damage to Israel than anyone in my lifetime’
Aaron Bastani delivers scathing critique: ‘Netanyahu has done more damage to Israel than anyone in my lifetime’
In a statement that sparked immediate controversy within pro-Israel circles and the global Zionist lobby, British political commentator Aaron Bastani publicly declared that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has caused more damage to the State of Israel than any other person in his lifetime. Far from being a fringe opinion, Bastani’s remarks echo a growing frustration — even from the international left — regarding the path Israel is taking under Netanyahu’s prolonged leadership.
Speaking during a recent interview, Bastani pointed to Zohran Mamdani, a rising political figure in New York and a potential future mayor, who has openly supported the BDS movement (Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions) against Israel. Bastani remarked that the mere fact such a conversation is taking place — about the mayor of what he called the “capital of the English-speaking world” supporting BDS — is extraordinary.
According to Bastani, this should be a wake-up call for Israel’s allies. “Surely Israel’s friends should look at this and think: hold on, something has gone wrong here.” He emphasized that blaming the other side is no longer enough and insisted that Israel must be condemned for its current trajectory, which, in his view, is destroying its own future.
Bastani further warned that Netanyahu won’t be around to face the consequences of his actions. “He won’t be there,” he said bluntly. “He doesn’t care. His legacy is already secured.”
While Bastani is often associated with leftist positions, his criticism raises a deeper concern about Israel’s future direction. Under Netanyahu, Israel has become more authoritarian, more divided internally, and more isolated on the global stage. Critics argue that the Israeli leader has prioritized political survival over national unity and long-term stability, pushing policies that alienate allies and fuel international condemnation.
Bastani’s focus on BDS is telling. Once a fringe movement, BDS now finds support among rising political leaders in Western nations — a trend that signals a significant shift in public sentiment. For many, this shift isn’t driven by anti-Semitism, but by growing disillusionment with the Israeli government’s behavior and human rights record.
His final remarks about Netanyahu’s indifference to the consequences suggest a leader disconnected from his own people and immune to accountability. Whether one agrees with Bastani’s politics or not, his warning resonates: Israel may be reaching a point of no return, and its most committed defenders should ask whether Netanyahu’s legacy is worth the cost.
