Yale Artist Explores Quantum Memory Through Art at YQI #QuantumArt #Yale #WorldTechnology

At Yale Quantum Institute, visual artist and historian Serena Scapagnini has taken residency to explore quantum memory, human memory, and how they intertwine. Guided by Florian Carle, once a rocket scientist turned arts curator, she collaborates with quantum researchers to translate concepts like superposition and error correction into tangible art installations.

Her project Refractions is now on display at Yale’s Haas Family Arts Library. It features ten handmade paper panels each embedding a thin copper plate engraved with a quantum state. Visitors cannot see the state without destructively engaging it, mirroring quantum collapse.

These works blur the line between art and science. They show that memory at the quantum scale and human scale can be felt through sight and touch. Serena and Florian are redefining how we engage with quantum physics through emotion and aesthetics.
