BRIAN WALSHE PRE TRIAL MOTION - MOTION TO DISMISS with a twist to Karen Reads Federal Documents
Cohasset Husband Charged With Murder in Disappearance of Ana Walshe
COHASSET, Mass. — What began as a missing person’s case on New Year’s Day 2023 has turned into one of Massachusetts’ most chilling murder investigations.
Authorities say 39-year-old Ana Walshe vanished in the early hours of January 1, 2023. Her husband, Brian Walshe, initially told police she left their Cohasset home to catch a flight to Washington, D.C. for work. Ana never boarded the plane, and she was reported missing three days later when she failed to show up for her job.
Investigators quickly focused on inconsistencies in Brian Walshe’s story. He claimed to have run errands the day after Ana’s disappearance, but surveillance footage instead showed him purchasing hundreds of dollars’ worth of cleaning supplies at a Home Depot, including tarps, buckets, gloves, and ammonia.
A search of the Walshe home uncovered blood stains in the basement and a broken, bloody knife. Law enforcement later discovered trash bags at a Peabody transfer station containing blood-stained items, a hacksaw, a hatchet, and items belonging to Ana Walshe. DNA evidence linked both Brian and Ana to several of the recovered objects.
Perhaps most damning were digital searches made from devices in the home, including a child’s iPad. Prosecutors say the queries included: “How long before a body starts to smell,” “How to dispose of a body,” and “Best ways to dismember.”
On January 18, 2023, Brian Walshe was charged with first-degree murder and improper disposal of a body. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges and remains in custody without bail. His trial is scheduled to begin October 20, 2025, in Norfolk Superior Court and is expected to last several weeks.
Authorities have not located Ana Walshe’s body. Prosecutors argue the forensic and digital evidence forms a clear picture of premeditated murder. The defense has challenged the investigation, filing motions to suppress evidence and questioning the conduct of lead investigators.
As the case moves toward trial, the disappearance of Ana Walshe continues to grip both the local community and national audience, raising disturbing questions about what happened inside the Cohasset home on New Year’s Day.
