Jacksonville Sheriff's Deputy D. Bowers is facing suspension after a violent traffic stop involving 22-year-old William Anthony McNeil Jr. On February 19, 2025, McNeil was pulled over in Jacksonville, Florida, allegedly for not having his headlights on during inclement weather. McNeil questioned the validity of the stop, requested a supervisor, and refused to immediately comply. Deputy Bowers responded by breaking McNeil’s window and repeatedly punching him while forcibly removing him from his SUV. McNeil suffered injuries including a chipped tooth, a concussion, and facial lacerations.

Although the state attorney cleared Deputy Bowers of criminal charges, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has stripped him of his law enforcement powers pending an internal investigation. Civil rights attorneys Ben Crump and Harry Daniels have taken McNeil's case, highlighting concerns of excessive force and racial profiling.

This video breaks down the legal context of the incident, analyzing whether the officer's actions were justified or represent unlawful police violence.
