Ball Park (1929) is a black-and-white animated short from the Aesop’s Fables series, directed by Paul Terry, featuring a chaotic and comedic baseball game where anthropomorphic animals turn a simple ballgame into a wild slapstick spectacle.

Synopsis:

In a rickety old stadium filled with cheering animal spectators, two rival teams of anthropomorphic animals face off in a lively baseball game. The home team includes a determined dog pitcher, a boastful rooster batter, and a wisecracking monkey catcher, while the visiting team brings their own quirky lineup of mischievous critters.

As the game begins, rules quickly fall apart—players use outrageous tricks, bats turn into umbrellas, and balls bounce off improbable places. Slapstick chaos erupts when a goat eats the scoreboard, a cow umpires from the stands, and a runaway pig steals home plate—literally.

The crowd goes wild with laughter and confusion, and in the final inning, a wild twist—like a tornado, exploding popcorn stand, or sneaky cheating by the opposing team—threatens to end the game. But the underdog heroes pull through in classic cartoon fashion.

The film ends with a raucous celebration, a moral quip (like “It’s not how you play the game—it’s how much fun you cause!”), and the familiar Aesop’s Fables sign-off.
