That was until I understood the storied elements behind the decision, then it made perfect sense. It made sense, but it still sucked, because, like many, after beating the game, I stored up upgrade Mats and entered New Game Plus. By utilizing my new game plus, getting to a starting point for Shadow of the Erd Tree was fairly simple. However, others that are attempting this feat without "New Game Plus" as springboard are struggling. One online friend even gave up outright. Enter "Race to the DLC". This is NOT a traditional guide by any measurement. I am simply documenting a vanilla run to Shadow of the Erd Tree. I will be taking the most direct route. In this video we are working on completing the steps to gain access to the Lord of Blood area early. Why? Well, there are a few upgrade mats I want from there, but to be honest, it about an area that can be used to legitimately level up pretty fast. The enemies in the DLC are touch / I would even venture to say that some are down right hard. With that in mind, we need to not only kill two demi-god's.. but we need to be leveled up enough to survive the coming challenges.

At the end of this video I needed a few thousand runes to level up, so I went to the Lord of Blood's domain and traveled to Palace Approach Ledge Road. Between video 12 and 13 the Race to the DLC series, I used this area to farm runes to make the upcoming area more manageable. I recommend you do the same. At this point my stats look like this: 29 - Vigor 17 - Mind 20 - Endurance 30 - Strength 30 - Dexterity 10 - Intelligence 21 - Faith* 08 - Arcane My next goal is to get Vigor up to 40. I am torn between a quality build and an arcane build. I love the spear we can get from the Lord of Blood's rememberance. *Why 21 in Faith? So I can use the blasphemy sword. Health regen on hit is hard to pass up on. When we finish Rykard, we will run with Bloodhound's fang and the blas sword.

THIS IS NOT THE CASE. Once the trick jump was patched I tested this out on Xbox, Steam, PS4 and on PS5. It has ZERO effects on your playthrough, The used to be one of the hardest fights because you come into the fight a little under leveled - that was until i accidentally threw a sleep post at the jerk when I was out of heals and down he went. So, now I go into the fight with 4 sleep posts and I put the guy down.

Make sure to do this before triggering the festival. Before triggering the Radahn Festival (which occurs after progressing far enough in Ranni's questline or taking the Grand Lift of Dectus), the castle is populated with enemies and accessible doors. Key loot available during this phase includes the Red-Hot Whetblade, which can be found inside the building after bypassing the Iron Virgin. The Armorer's Cookbook can be looted from corpses within the stable room, which is accessed after climbing a ladder from the exterior and defeating commoners. A Smithing Stone is located in a chest in front of a knight on the rooftops, and another is found on a corpse near the stable. Additional Smithing Stones can be found on the rooftops and in the stable room. A Golden Rune is located on the upper section of the castle, accessible via a ladder from the west side.

The Consecrated Snowfields Catacomb can be challenging, but the loot is worth the effort. Both of these catacombs are challenging and rewarding. The Sainted Hero's is defiantly worth it even if you don't intend to finish it.. to pick up the Dragoncrest Shield Talisman +1... which gives you physical damage protection.

About Race to DLC

When news broke that Elden Ring was being blessed with a DLC, like the masses, I was ecstatic. However, when I learned that you had to defeat Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood before entering the realm of shadow, I was perplexed. That was until I understood the storied elements behind the decision, then it made perfect sense. It made sense, but it still sucked, because, like many, after beating the game, I stored up upgrade Mats and entered New Game Plus.

By utilizing my new game plus, getting to a starting point for Shadow of the Erd Tree was fairly simple. However, others that are attempting this feat without "New Game Plus" as springboard are struggling. One online friend even gave up outright.

Enter "Race to the DLC". This is NOT a traditional guide by any measurement. I am simply documenting a vanilla run to Shadow of the Erd Tree. I will be taking the most direct route. For example, When I reach Rykard, I will be using the shortcut to the boss fight. I will NOT be tackling the volcano manor assassinations. I will be looking for opportunities to level ASAP, being that the enemies in Shadow of the Erd Tree are NO JOKE.
