According to Psychology Today, "there is a difference between 'sex' and 'gender'. Sex is 'biological' while gender is 'psychological', 'social', or 'cultural'. A person's gender can be different from a person's sex." (Michael Mascolo, Time to Move Beyond "Gender is a Socially Constructed" psychologytoday.com). According to this idea, if a society is able to break down the societal barriers between what is masculine and feminine, society would see men and women becoming more similar than different. However, recent studies show that the opposite is true. This has, in turn, been called the "patriarchy paradox."
