Kash Patel was found secretly setting up a US intelligence organisation department in New Zealand, as part of the 5 eyes data collection, and NZ's pacific region public relations. This is a new "enforcement" department of the FBI, which is now active in New Zealand. China was unhappy with the news.
US reputational damage was since minimised by public disclosure after Kash Patel's purpose of the trip to New Zealand was reported by the British Daily Mail.
