🎙️ Never Promise a Child This: Protecting Their Wellbeing.

Episode #218 | DIOTALK Podcast

> “That’s a promise you should *never* make.”

There are some promises adults should *never* make to a child—especially this one:

> *“I won’t tell anyone if you’re being hurt or thinking of hurting yourself.”*

That’s a dangerous promise. But it’s one too many parents make—**out of fear**, **confusion**, or **ignorance**.

Why? Because so many of us come from generations that avoided tough conversations. Trauma? Swept under the rug. Abuse? Don’t speak on it. Pain? Just keep moving.

> “Forget and go forward.”

But our brains don’t forget. We **suppress**. And suppressed trauma always finds a way to surface.

> Maybe you were told as a kid:
> *“Shut your mouth.”*
> *“You better not say anything.”*

So you buried it deep. But that memory still lingers—unspoken, but not gone. And one day, it leaks out… as **anger**.

> That’s why so many men are walking around **furious**.
> But they’re not angry…
> **They’re hurt.**

Bottled up. Because in their world, the only “safe” emotions to show are **anger**, **laughter**, or **rage**.
