The Feederliners - Short 330 and 360

Today, we cast our eyes over a pair of airliner models that were generally never noticed when they were in mainstream service, two utilitarian designs that were built with the sole purpose of combining efficiency, ruggedness and practicality so as to serve some of the most remote regions on the planet, although looking deep into the story of these purposeful machines, the Short SD3.30 and its larger Short 660 brother did in fact prove to be among the most successful British-built airliners in history, so much so that over half of each version produced ended up in service on the highly insular American market, proving that, despite decades of failure in attempting to woo airlines of the United States, with the right mixture of circumstance and appeal to an untapped market segment, the UK aviation industry could indeed make a splash across the pond.
