Blocker/Mover Offense: Utilizing the High Post to Combat Pressure Defense

BLOCKER/MOVER OFFENSE: UTILIZING THE HIGH POST TO COMBAT HIGH PRESSURE MAN-TO-MAN DEFENSE:

This is a clip of our 2015 Maumee HS team playing Defiance HS in the Sectional tournament. Defiance was led by head coach Kirk Lehman, who is one of the finest coaches in the history of Ohio HS basketball. Kirk is also one of the finest men I’ve ever met in my life, as well. DHS was known for their high pressure man-to-man defense & high level execution of their set plays & 5-Out motion offense.

Ballhandling was not our biggest strength, so we had to rely on attacking the opposition via the pass, which is most difficult to do vs. high pressure, well coached, man-to-man defense. Over the years, we learned to utilize the high post (we called “Pro-Spots) v. pressure defenses. In this game we utilized our Lane/Lane, Blocker Mover offense, as it allocates a lot of spacing for exacting passes to the high post. Defiance went on to win the 2015 State Championship, they are always, every season, extremely difficult to play against.
