Clarification of Speaking in Tongues

1 Corinthians 12:4-7 “Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.”

 Diversities [G1243 (3x)]: a distinction arising from a different distribution to different persons.

 Gifts [G5486]: grace or gifts denoting extraordinary powers, distinguishing certain Christians, and enabling them to serve the church of Christ, the reception of which is due to the power of divine grace operating on their souls by the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 12:27-30 “Now ye are the body of Christ... 28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? 30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?”

At our new birth, the Spirit of God comes to live in us. We are born-again and we are made new creatures in Christ. God becomes our Father, and we become His children. We are born of the Spirit and made like Christ in our spirits (rebirth of the soul) by the Word of God and the Holy Spirit. At the new birth, we encounter the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We receive the life of God, and the nature and character of God. The fruit of the Holy Spirit is planted in our spirits and begins to grow and develop in us.

At the new birth, we receive the Spirit of Christ to dwell in us, which is the Spirit within, but we are not yet baptized in the Holy Spirit, which is the Spirit upon (sic, each believer) – endued (clothed) with power from on high.
