Couple become trapped in tenth floor flat over Christmas after left fails

A couple became prisoners in their tower block flat and were forced to have a cheese sandwich for Christmas dinner after the lifts failed leaving them trapped on the tenth floor.

Lyn and Steve Phillips, who both suffer health problems, have been left stranded since the second of two lifts failed on Christmas Eve.

One lift has been out of order since the beginning of December, but the problem became critical on the 24th, when the second lift failed.
