At least coffee #74, or This somewhat strange summer

You surely know the scene. Rudolf Hrušínský in a memorable scene, half submerged in water, with rain falling on him. At that time, Vladislav Vančura, the author of the original work, would never have thought that climate change was to blame. Nor did the actors in this famous film. That came much later. A certain unsuccessful candidate for the US presidency, Al Gore, came up with the idea that the planet was warming up and that the culprit was a trace gas in the atmosphere known by the chemical symbol CO2. Although it accounts for less than half a percent of the planet's gaseous envelope, it is responsible for everything we see. Actually, yes, it can. It is a life-giving gas. Without it, there would not be a single green plant. And without those green plants, there would be no life. Even animals, including the so-called lord of creation, could not exist because they would have nothing to eat. Simply put, without CO2, there would be no life on the planet. And yet there is so little of it. And even that is too much for the Algorists.
I like to follow the posts of those who are at least somewhat intelligent and capable of using logical arguments. I know that the planet is warming up imperceptibly; after all, I haven't seen a proper winter with lots of snow here in Otava for several years. So I wouldn't even think of buying a snow blower. I can easily sweep away the few snowflakes that fall during the winter with a broom. But it is also clear to me that human influence on this change is really minimal. The Sun and fluctuations in the Earth's axis have a much greater influence. The so-called Milankovitch cycles affect the climate much more than humans themselves.
The impact of CO2 on air temperature is truly marginal to nonexistent. Proof of this can be found in our two closest planets, Venus and Mars. Both have high CO2 content in their atmospheres. But their temperatures are significantly different. The temperature on Venus is around 460 °C and the atmospheric pressure is around 8 MPa, which is ninety times higher than on Earth, while on Mars the temperature ranges from -140 to +20 °C. The pressure is about 700 Pa, which is one hundred to one hundred and fifty times lower than on Earth. Yet they have roughly the same amount of CO2, around ninety percent of the content. So why does the greenhouse effect exist on Venus and not on Mars? Well, because of pressure. It is atmospheric pressure that affects air temperature, not CO2.
Farmers have observed for many years that their plants grow better near major highways. This effect is partly due to the heat (urban heat island) from the road surface. It is also partly because the road acts as a kind of roof that directs water towards the fields. A closer study reveals an even more interesting fact. CO2 and certain other compounds in the exhaust gases of cars and trucks provide plants with more nutrients. This leads to a gradual decline about 250 feet from the main highway. This effect is less pronounced on smaller roads.
You may have noticed a study that states that Europe is warming faster because it has cleaner air. Yes, you read that correctly, it really is the effect of a cleaner environment. In fact, some time ago, a similar study appeared, claiming that due to cleaner air in China, the ocean off the Chinese coast is also warming up more. So it's not pollution, but clean air that is causing the warming. I don't know how much to believe in such studies, but if there is even a grain of truth in them, then the whole nonsense called the Green Deal has no effect whatsoever on reducing temperatures.
To stop anyone who thinks I am against protecting nature and the air, that is not the case at all. On the contrary, I believe that clean water in rivers and ponds, clean and rich forests, green meadows, and sown fields are the best things we can do for our own better lives. But all the restrictions currently set by Fialová in the Fit for 55 package have no effect on this. On the contrary, they worsen the conditions for a peaceful life for all Europeans.
And instead of the more civilized part of the world trying to protect rivers and seas in less developed parts, we are fooling around here in Europe and coming up with measures that are both unrealistic and harmful.
So we are in for a rather strange summer.
At least we still have the coffee
