The Rant-Abandon Them?

The debate surrounding abortion is polarizing, often leading to a stalemate. However, the well-being of mothers and the circumstances that lead them to consider abortion are often overlooked. Many women choose abortion as a last resort due to abandonment, desperation, and perceived inability to provide for a child. This abandonment manifests in various forms, such as high living costs, inadequate wages, and lack of affordable housing. Access to comprehensive prenatal care, mental health support, and postnatal care is often limited, leaving mothers feeling unsupported. In an increasingly fragmented society, new mothers often lack robust familial and community networks, leaving them to shoulder the emotional, physical, and financial burdens of parenthood alone. To truly support mothers and reduce the perceived need for abortion, we must shift our focus from a punitive or restrictive approach to one of radical support. This includes universal parental leave, subsidized childcare, affordable housing initiatives, expanded access to food and nutritional programs, comprehensive reproductive healthcare, policies protecting pregnant workers, investing in parent support groups, encouraging fathers to be responsible partners, and cultivating a culture that values and respects the work of raising children.
