Once Upon A Red Mile

On frozen Northern regions of Porrimma III there is a half-mile wide valley full of hazardous death traps, toxic fumes, old war explosives, hulks of old ships, and vicious local beasts called Blood Maulers which exists for the purposes of entertainment and gambling. This blood sport is called the Red Mile. The object is to cross from one side of the valley to the other and back avoiding the dangerous creatures, terrain, and hazards. The cash reward for returning once is huge. The more you cross the Red Mile, the higher odds go up against doing so again successfully.

So why is Michael Knight, formerly known as "The Boss", repeatedly running the Red Mile?!
