Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Force Investigation Division is investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) that occurred in Rampart Division.
On June 19, 2025, at 4:10 a.m., Rampart Patrol Division uniformed officers responded to multiple radio calls of a burglary in progress at an apartment complex in the 500 block of N. Alexandria Avenue.
The comments of the calls indicated that the suspect, later identified as 27-year-old Victor Manuel Carrillo, was attempting to gain access into apartments. The officers observed Carrillo at a second-floor entrance to the apartment complex. Carrillo threw lumber, ceramic pots, and other objects at the officers while armed with a knife, resulting in the discharge of less lethal munitions.
Carrillo fled and forced entry into an occupied second floor apartment through a window. The officers forced entry into the apartment and were confronted by Carrillo who was armed with a knife and metal chair resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting and the discharge of an additional less-lethal munition.
Carrillo was struck by gunfire and taken into custody without further incident. Officers rendered aid until the arrival of Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) personnel, who pronounced Carrillo deceased.
A knife, metal chair, and lumber were recovered at scene and booked as evidence. One officer experienced pain in his left leg after being struck by lumber; however, he declined medical treatment. Two community members suffered minor injuries during a struggle with Carrillo as he attempted to enter their apartment. One of the community members was treated by LAFD personnel, the other declined treatment.
Force Investigation Division (FID) investigators responded to the scene and are investigating this incident.
