Col. Doug Macgregor warns that much of the U.S. military aid promised to Ukraine either doesn’t exist or would make little difference, with air defense supplies like Patriot missiles offering only minutes of coverage. He cites a Russian general staff estimate that Ukraine could collapse within 90 days due to severe manpower shortages, forcing the West’s plans—such as installing a new leader—to be irrelevant.

He argues President Trump is unlikely to admit failure in ending the war quickly, but should instead immediately halt all military aid, provide humanitarian help via a third country, and withdraw all Americans from Ukraine. Macgregor insists the U.S. has no vital strategic interest there and helped create the conflict alongside Britain and NATO.

He criticizes Trump for reacting emotionally to Medvedev’s comments—sending nuclear submarines in a show of toughness—when Medvedev is not the decision-maker. This “tough guy” framing appeals to Cold War–era instincts but risks escalation. Macgregor stresses the real goal should be avoiding nuclear war, respecting Russia’s legitimate security concerns, and abandoning imaginary interests in eastern Ukraine.

He concludes that the U.S. already maintains constant nuclear deterrence via missile subs at sea, making public shows of force unnecessary and dangerous.
