On June 11th, 2025, at approximately 5:59 p.m., Gilbert Police responded to reports of a man passed out behind the wheel at the intersection of Lindsay and Guadalupe Roads. Officers arrived within minutes and found a vehicle stopped in traffic with the driver unconscious.

Multiple officers boxed in the vehicle for public safety before attempting to wake the driver, later identified as 24-year-old Jacob Alan Rose. After briefly making eye contact with officers, Rose suddenly raised a rifle and pointed it at them, initiating a deadly threat.

Officers took cover and opened fire. Rose then attempted to flee, ramming police vehicles with his car. Officers discharged their weapons again to stop the continued threat.

An immediate action team used less-lethal rounds to confirm Rose was unresponsive. He was pronounced deceased at 6:29 p.m.

Inside Rose’s vehicle, officers recovered:

A loaded rifle

A handgun in his waistband

A backpack containing two more handguns (one stolen), ammunition, drugs, and cash

A second bag with cocaine, ecstasy, and prescription pills

A tactical plate carrier vest

This incident is under investigation by the Mesa Police Department as part of the East Valley Critical Incident Response Team (EVCIRT), which provides independent oversight of officer-involved shootings across participating agencies.

All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
