Spicy City Episode 3: Tears of a Clone

Spicy City is an American adult animated erotic cyberpunk television series created by Ralph Bakshi for HBO.
It premiered on July 11, 1997, and concluded on August 22, 1997, after a single season comprising six episodes.
The series is an anthology, presenting standalone science fiction stories set in a futuristic, dystopian metropolis with a seamy side.
Each episode is introduced by Raven, a sultry nightclub hostess voiced by Michelle Phillips, who also makes brief appearances within the tales.

The show was developed in response to discussions about Trey Parker and Matt Stone's video Christmas card, which would become South Park, leading HBO to commission Bakshi to create the first animated series specifically targeted toward adults.
Bakshi assembled a diverse writing team, including his son Preston, and Asian, Black, Transvestite, and formerly incarcerated individuals, for the project, which was initially titled Spicy Detective before being renamed.
The series was animated by South Korea-based studios Koko Enterprises and Seoul Moive, with virtual reality scenes handled by Funbag Animation Studios in Ottawa.

Despite its groundbreaking status as one of the first adult-oriented animated series on television, the critical reception was mixed and largely unfavorable.
The Los Angeles Times described it as "Adolescent Humor for Adults," while the Dallas Morning News noted it "exploits the female form while also condemning the practice".
Although it received acceptable ratings, a second season was approved, but HBO wanted to replace Bakshi's writing team with professional Los Angeles screenwriters; Bakshi refused, leading to the series' cancellation.
The show has since become a cult favorite among Bakshi fans and is considered a rare find, as it was never officially released on VHS or DVD.
It aired on Canadian network Teletoon and its French counterpart from 1999 to 2003.
