and John Lee

Two small towns, same damn road
Tight curve, heavy load
Friday night, full of fire
Chasin’ time, burnin’ tires
Rex and Lee, in that pickup old truck
Tryna beat the screen, ran outa luck
Dropped a wheel, hit that rise
Truck took flight, split the sky
Freebird keeps playin’
On the radio
You don’t get answers
Only roads
So love your people
And use your brain
And try your best
Not to Die in vain
They found Lee, still in his seat
But Rex flew out, lost in the weeds
Wasn't till the next day in my lawn
Found Rex's body, but Rex was gone
Some say death's where it all ends
But I know better, my dear friends
Cause my spirit hovered over dentist's chair
Lookin down and laughin’ as I floated there
Freebird keeps playin’
On the radio
You don’t get answers
Only roads
So love your people
And use your brain
And try your best
Not to Die in vain
I've Been dead once
And I know I'll go again
But I ain't scared
Not one bit, Not since then
So light it up
And hold on tight
And just do your best
To hold onto life
Lee stood tall, pride in his chest,
Wore his country's uniform, gave his best
Loved his kin, his friends, his land
With a steady heart and a soldier’s stand
With The Old Guard, sharp and strong
He watched over Reagan all day long
At the White House gates, through silent flame,
Guarding the soldier who has no name
Freebird keeps playin’
On the radio
You don’t get answers
Only roads
So love your people
Use your brain
And try your best
Not to Die in vain
