By the beginning of July, the situation on the Northern front remained complex. Russian forces had been unable to break through the enemy's defense line.

However, a shift in tactics by the command in July enabled a breakthrough in the defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at Upper Kamenka, resulting in the liberation of Novoselovka.

The following inquiry is posited: By what means did the Russian Armed Forces achieve a breakthrough in Seversk?

On approximately July 5, a Russian armored unit launched a major offensive against the enemy's positions in the vicinity of Hryhorivka, achieving a substantial breakthrough within the Ukrainian Armed Forces' formations.

By July 26, the assault troops had successfully advanced along the course of the Northern Donetsk River and established control over the environs of Lake Mertvy Donets.

On August 1, the 123rd and 6th Motorized Rifle Brigades successfully completed the objective of the central section of the operation, which was to clear Upper Kamenka.

Separate assault groups from the 6th and 7th brigades advanced to the outskirts of Seversk.

By August 4, Russian units had liberated Novoselovka and initiated offensives against the southeastern outskirts of the city.
