The Birth of GIANTHOOK: Chasing a Childhood Dream

My journey with drawing began when I was just a child, sketching stick figures with a shaky hand and a big imagination. Even before I could truly understand the world around me, I felt a deep urge to create, to tell stories, to bring characters to life. Over the past 20 years, that passion never left me. My tools changed, my style evolved, life pulled me in different directions... but the child inside me stayed right there, dreaming of hunting sea monsters with a handcrafted weapon.

I’ve tried many things along the way. I started a game studio, ran a restaurant in Asia, taught art, explored every corner of creativity I could find. Sometimes I got lost, sometimes I found a spark. But nothing ever came close to the dream project I had buried deep inside: a monster fishing game set in a wild and wonderful ocean world. Three years ago, while struggling to finish a horror game under pressure, I stumbled across an old character design video from years ago. It was my original sketch of Gianthook. It felt like my younger self had reached out to remind me of who I really am.

That moment reignited everything. This time, I knew I had to do it, no more excuses. I locked myself in, worked for endless hours, poured 15 years of experience into reimagining this character from the ground up. Gianthook is now alive: a fearless, fun-loving adventurer with his father’s old weapon, the Humbagun, capturing sea creatures and stunning them in wild battles. He’s everything I wanted to be when I was a kid.

And now… here I am. I’ve received funding, and I’m working on this game full-time. OHAYO: Gianthook – Monster Fishing Adventure is more than just a game, it’s the sum of childhood dreams, teenage rebellion, and adult determination. I hope that when you dive into this world, you won’t just catch fish, you’ll catch a little piece of wonder too.
