A day after President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs took effect across more than 90 countries, American retailers such as Walmart, Amazon, and Target have reportedly halted orders from India. With a 25 per cent tariff imposed on Indian goods, effective since August 7, US importers are reportedly refusing to bear the added costs, forcing Indian exporters to pause shipments. Analysts warn that American orders from India could drop by as much as 50 per cent, risking over $5 billion in trade. India has hit back, calling the tariffs “unfair,” while Prime Minister Modi has vowed to stand firm to protect farmers.
