We’re back in Dalat, Vietnam during the Tet holiday, exploring whether this once-quiet mountain retreat is becoming too commercialized or if it’s still holding onto its small-town charm. After visiting many times over the years, we’ve watched Dalat develop — with improved infrastructure, new cafes, modern hotels, and more attractions than ever.

In this video, we start our day at the cozy Bicycle Up Cafe, enjoy delicious banh mi at the famous Lien Hoa Bakery, and visit the unique and colorful Heaven and Hell Pagoda. We stop for authentic Italian food at Pizzeria Primavera Ristorante, explore the quirky Maze Bar, shop for local snacks, and catch spontaneous dragon dances happening in the streets near Dalat’s night market and central market, as locals give blessings and good luck to neighborhood stores.

But with progress comes change. The city center feels more crowded and hectic than we remember, and many locals say Dalat is getting too busy, with property investment from Ho Chi Minh City driving growth. Is this surge in activity just because of Tet, or is it the new reality for Dalat year-round?

We discuss the pros and cons of the city’s rapid development, its appeal to both travelers and expats, and why — despite the changes — Dalat remains one of Vietnam’s most beautiful and unique destinations.
