Christian Emergency League and Engage 2025

On September 11th, 1933, a group of 61 German pastors gathered to form The Pfarrernotbund – The Pastors Emergency League. Outraged by Nazi incursion into Church affairs and disappointed by the silent pulpits of their peers, men like Martin Niemoller and Dietrich Bonhoeffer forged this covenant so that the light of the Christian gospel in Germany would neither be stamped out by Jackboots nor trimmed by black robes. As important as it was for churches to take a stand in 1933, a more insidious process is taking place within the church in this age of re-enchantment. In Luke 18:8 Jesus posed the question, “when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”
