Schlepp Conservation Easement, West field wild rice. 2025

Video taken on 8/12/2025 showing a great stand of wild rice growing in the lower West field. This field had become choked with water shield. In the summer of 2024 the field was dewatered and rototilled to kill the water shield and desiccate the associated rhizomes. The wild rice stand you see if the video was not seeded last fall. The seed was laying dormant in the soil profile, and being suppressed by the thick stand of water shield. Hopefully this stand is now strong enough to reseed itself for years to come.
