The "squirting cucumber," Ecballium elaterium, is a plant known for its exp*osive seed dis-persal mechanism. The fruit, filled with a thick, watery liquid, builds up internal pressure. When the fruit is disturbed, often by an animal, the pressure bursts, shooting the seeds and surrounding pulp outward, some-times over a distance of 10 meters.
