If all you've done is writing a bunch of words, then you've written a short story, novella or novel. If all you've done is draw pretty pictures, you've done a picture book. Only when a letterer sits down and takes the words off a written script and transcribes them onto the comic pages do you have a comic book. It's the only story telling media that combines both the sensibilities of art and literature into one format. Which is more important?
