“Surrounded by elephants at our campsite, we were keenly aware of their presence, especially being in a country renowned for its vast elephant population. Most were bulls, quenching their thirst at nearby water sources. One afternoon, while enjoying card games with our guests, a magnificent bull ambled right through our campsite!

By the time I realized where he was headed, it was too late for anyone to stand up or move. I readied my hand to bang on the table if necessary, prepared to shout him down should he show any signs of aggression (which he didn’t). I calmly instructed everyone to remain still and let him pass peacefully.”
