Siskel & Ebert: 8-5-95
Note: Missing the 3 Strip graphics and the Intro along with the sponsors and end credits, which got taped over with Roger Ebert's review of "Waterworld" on KATU 2 News.
Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert reviews of "Something to Talk About" (A rather forgettable romantic comedy from director Lasse Hallström whose usually has does some better work like "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?" and "Chocolat" that goes in two ways, a battle of the sexes between a cheating husband and his distress southern wife and another with her father taking her daughter on horseback riding. Starring: Julia Roberts, Dennis Quaid, Robert Duvall, the late, great Gena Rowlands, and Kyra Sedgwick, who was nominated for a Golden Globe. I didn't like it that much when I saw it on home video and still don't. And was astounded by Siskel & Ebert's recommendation.); "Unzipped"; "Virtuosity" (The incredible CGI virtual reality Sci-Fi Action thriller about a cop who was a wrongfully convicted going after an Al generated serial killer, Sid 6.7 who murder his family and he's out for revenge and justice. From "The Lawnmower Man's" director, Brett Leonard. Starring: Denzel Washington, Aussie actor Russell Crowe in his American debut (This was 12 years long before "American Gangster" (2007) together as a second collaboration in a switched antagonist/protagonist roles), Kelly Lynch, Stephen Spinella, William Forsythe and the late, great Louise Fletcher (who ironically was in "Brainstorm" (1983).); "A Walk in the Clouds" (Very touching and heartfelt romantic drama. Starring: Keanu Reeves. Better film than "Something to Talk About"); "The Brothers McMullen" (Terrific Drama about brothers trying to help each other with romantic relationships and others from Edward Burns who stars and made his feature debut as a writer and director.) and "Double Happiness" (Delightful film with Sandra Oh.) And a recap of Today's program.
Plus, Roger Ebert's review of "Waterworld" with Kevin Costner, Jeannie Triplehorn, Dennis Hopper and Tina Majorino. (Despite of the controversy, I had a lot fun with excitement on the post-apocalypse action film that's "Mad Max" on the high sea! It later had the popular Stage Show at Universal Studios Hollywood, which replace the "Miami Vice" Stunt Show. Hopefully, the "Siskel & Ebert" episode will be found.)
Recorded on KATU ABC 2 in Portland, Oregon with Commercials intact.
