Mexico extradites 26 inmates wanted over cartel links to US

Mexico has extradited 26 suspected cartel operatives to the U.S., including members of the Jalisco New Generation and Sinaloa cartels, in its second major transfer this year.

The individuals, accused of violent crimes and organized crime links, are considered high security risks.

Among them is Abigael González Valencia, alleged top financier for CJNG leader “El Mencho.”

Mexico approved the transfers on condition none face the death penalty, BBC has reported.

The move follows U.S. pressure to crack down on cross-border drug trafficking and comes amid ongoing cooperation on fentanyl smuggling, despite Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum rejecting any U.S. military action in the country.
