Franklin's Tower is a song by the Grateful Dead, written by lyricist Robert Hunter and composed by Jerry Garcia, first appearing on their 1975 album Blues for Allah. The song is known for its evocative lyrics and has become a staple of the band's live performances, featured on numerous official releases and live recordings from the 1970s through the 1990s, including Dick's Picks, View From The Vault, and the 30 Trips Around The Sun box set. It was also released as a single in 1976 paired with "Help On The Way". Uncle John's Band is a song by the Grateful Dead that first appeared in their concert setlists in late 1969. The band recorded it for their 1970 album Workingman's Dead. Written by guitarist Jerry Garcia and lyricist Robert Hunter, "Uncle John's Band" presents the Dead in an acoustic and musically concise mode, with close harmony singing. The song is one of the band's best known, and is included on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. Casey Jones is about a railroad engineer who is on the verge of a train wreck due to his train going too fast, a sleeping switch man, and another train being on the same track and headed for him. Jones is described as being "high on cocaine" (the song even makes a double entendre of advising Jones to "watch his speed"). It was inspired by the story of an actual engineer named Casey Jones. The engineer's exploits were also sung of in an earlier folk song called "The Ballad of Casey Jones", which the Grateful Dead played live several times.
