Week 29 Readings of our 2025 Chronological Bible-in-a-Year Reading Challenge take us through the first half of the Book of Ezekiel—our third Major Prophet of the Old Testament’s “Big Four”.

Ezekiel, a prophet-priest, was part of the 2nd deportation of Jews to Babylon in 597BC, a decade prior to Jerusalem's destruction. His ministry to the exiles spanned some 20 years, included multiple heavenly encounters and visions, some dramatic prophecies-with-props, and focussed heavily on the state of the Temple.

In this tutorial, Chad Mansbridge explains how Ezekiel and his contemporaries fit in the three main waves of Jewish captivity to Babylon, courtesy of King Nebuchadnezzar, before highlighting some notable features of Ezekiel’s ministry, mysticism, and creative communication methods.

Here is a suggested 5-stage schedule for this week’s readings:
• Chs. 1–7: Ezekiel’s ministry begins
• Chs. 8–11: Ezekiel tours the Temple
• Chs. 12–15: various condemnations
• Chs. 16–19: condemnations continue
• Chs. 20–24: Jerusalem’s fate is sealed
