Parents face $2,000 fines or 90 days in jail if their children break laws in NJ

Gloucester Township, New Jersey, has passed a measure holding parents legally accountable for crimes committed by their children under 18, with penalties of up to 90 days in jail or $2,000 in fines.

The ordinance lists 28 offenses, from disorderly conduct to felonies, with harsher consequences for repeat offenders.

The move follows a 2023 community event where a massive brawl involving mostly teens injured three police officers and led to multiple arrests, the U.S. Sun has reported.

Officials say the law aims to curb “lawlessness” among unsupervised youth and prevent future violent incidents.
