A different way to hit your glutes. This standing cable press down version allows for more emphasis in a lengthened position of the glutes. It's also less emphasis on the hamstrings. Some of my clients find they feel hamstrings too much when doing other version of cable kickbacks. And elevating yourself can help you not kick the ground at the bottom. The other exercise that's similar to this is a press down on an assisted pull up machine where you press the weighted assistance pad down.
