The Bible was divided into chapters and verses by different people at different times. Stephen Langton, Archbishop of Canterbury, is credited with dividing the Bible into chapters around the year 1205. Then Robert Estienne, who was I think a printer is credited with dividing the Bible into verses a few hundred years later. There was some division of the TANAK long before that.
It begins with the voice crying in the wilderness ‘prepare the way of the LORD’ which is fulfilled by John the Baptist. It moves on to a servant of the LORD Who is anointed by the Holy Spirit, Who dies for the sins of HIS people and is raised and exalted after HIS death. It moves on to ‘you shall be MY witnesses to the ends of the earth’ and it finishes up with GOD saying ‘I AM making all things new; I create a new heaven and a new earth’, and it finishes up with another place where the fire never goes out and the worms never die.
ISA 1:18 “Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.
ISA 2:4-5 And HE shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore. O house of Jacob, come and let us walk in the light of the LORD.
The truth of the matter is they don’t want peace and sadder yet even if they did, which they don’t, they certainly don’t know how to get it. Their message is we can do it all without GOD. Truth is: War is big business, big big business.
ISA 9:8-10, The LORD has sent a message against Jacob; it will fall on Israel. All the people will know it Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria who say with pride and arrogance of heart, “The bricks have fallen down, but we will rebuild with dressed stone; the fig trees have been felled, but we will replace them with cedars.”
ISA 7:14, Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call HIM Immanuel (GOD with us).
CH 53 of course, ‘Wounded for our transgression bruised for our iniquity. ’CH 55 everyone that thirsts, come buy wine and milk without money and without price’…CH 61 which was the text for our LORD’s first sermon in Nazareth…
