ELI: Transforming Child Protection

Hi, and welcome to the show!

On today’s show I have the pleasure of welcoming the CEO and President of ELI - The Israel Association for Child Protection, Mr ERAN ZIMRIN, to talk about his journey to becoming President, what ELI does and why it’s important, programs they run for different age groups, and how the organization is evolving to meet demand.

If you met Eran Zimrin a few decades ago, you might’ve known him as a successful textile manufacturer working with top Israeli fashion chains. Later, maybe as a life insurance pro helping families plan for the future. But today? He’s something else entirely — the President of ELI – The Israel Association for Child Protection — and a powerful force for good. Eran didn’t plan on leading a national nonprofit. But life had other ideas.

When the textile industry in Israel hit hard times, Eran pivoted into insurance — not just for the business opportunity, but because it let him help people during their most difficult moments. He liked knowing he could help someone afford life-saving surgery or give a family financial stability when they needed it most.

At the same time, his mother, Dr. Hanita Zimrin, was doing something extraordinary — she was building ELI, long before most of the country was ready to talk about child abuse. She didn’t just build a nonprofit; she raised a national conversation. When she passed away, Eran and his family had a choice to make: walk away, or carry her legacy forward. They didn’t hesitate.

Today, Eran runs ELI with the same clarity of purpose that defined his mother’s mission — but with a modern edge. He’s expanded the organization’s focus, brought in innovation, and doubled down on prevention. Under his leadership, ELI has developed school-based programs that use theater to teach kids about safe relationships. They’ve created a “Purple Button” — a simple, digital gateway for kids and parents to ask for help, without fear or shame. And they’re not just treating children — they’re working with whole families, helping to stop cycles of abuse before they can begin again.

And that’s crucial—because since the events of October 7, trauma cases have spiked. ELI’s team now handles over 10,000 cases annually, many of them connected to war-related anxiety, neglect, and violence at home. These aren’t just numbers. These are real kids, with real fears, who now have a place to turn to because ELI is there.

What’s striking about Eran isn’t just that he took on a heavy role — it’s how he’s growing it with heart and strategy. He’s connecting ELI to schools, educators, parents, therapists, even tech. He sees this work not as crisis response, but as a long-term investment in public mental health, community safety, and national healing.

In every sense, this is personal for him. He might not be a therapist, but he’s the one answering the call when things go wrong — guiding his team, keeping the doors open, and making sure no child falls through the cracks. It’s a legacy. It’s a mission. And thanks to Eran Zimrin, it’s one that’s not just surviving — it’s growing.

If you haven’t heard of ELI before, now’s the time. Their work is needed more than ever. To learn more about the topics discussed, or to contact Eran directly, click the link below.
