How Can We Tell What Really Happened with Trump and Putin

The meeting with Trump and Putin went well or badly - depending on which media outlet you prefer. Surprise! Media outlets that hate Trump called the meeting everything from a failure to a fiasco. Media outlets that favor Trump applauded the meeting. So...what really happened in Alaska? Since the media is protected by the First Amendment, they can say whatever they want - no repercusions. So...as usual...what should we believe?
