Israeli forces have killed at least 57 Palestinians across the Gaza Strip on Sunday August 17, 2025, including 38 people who were searching for food. Attacks on Gaza City have intensified, as Israel prepares to expand its war.

Al Jazeera’s Katia Lopez-Hodoyan reports.

Displaced and desperate Palestinians are scrambling for scraps of food as they face bombardment from Israeli forces planning to seize Gaza City. Attacks on Sunday have killed at least 11 people across the strip. Thousands have been forced to flee the north, but many have nowhere else to go. And limited space is compounding Israel's man-made starvation crisis.

Al Jazeera’s Ibrahim Al-Khalili reports from Gaza City, Palestine.

Air strikes have intensified across the Strip, with much of the assault focused on Gaza City. That's after the Israeli military announced plans to take over the city and forcibly displace Palestinians to concentration zones in southern Gaza. At least 31 Palestinians were killed on Saturday, including 14 people who were searching for something to eat.

Al Jazeera’s Julide Ayger reports.

New figures from Gaza’s Health Ministry showing 11 people have starved to death in the territory in the past 24 hours reflect the realities in Gaza. Palestinians are unable to get food and are putting their lives at risk to try to feed their children. The latest to have died from hunger were siblings, aged 16 and 25, who died on the same day. We’re losing Palestinians not just from air strikes, shelling and drones, but also from malnutrition and starvation.

Why is this? Because food distribution points, upon which most Palestinians are reliant, are not operating. Hot meal kitchens where people get their daily meals are not operating any more.

Palestinians are risking their lives going to aid hubs run by the notorious GHF, risking being shot because they want to feed their families. Whatever is coming into Gaza is not enough. Most of the trucks entering are commercial trucks and food is very expensive.

The reality is devastating – Palestinians have no choice but to see their children die of malnutrition and starvation.

Al Jazeera’s Hind Khoudary reports.
