Residents of Buner district in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province Tuesday grappled with the devastating aftermath of days worth of heavy rain and deadly flash floods, which killed more than 300 people.

"Everybody is scared," resident Sahil Khan said, adding that his family members did not feel like going back to their homes.

Heavy monsoon rains also pounded Karachi, Pakistan's largest city, bringing low-lying areas to a standstill with severe flooding.

Dr. Syed Muhammad Tayyab Shah, a Lead Risk Assessment Technical at Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), said that in 2025, "the overall swath of the monsoon has extended," because of the disturbance from Afghanistan's northeastern provinces, combined with moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea.
