In this episode, Cody explains the difference between our Standard, HD and Steel Picatinny rails.

There are 4 main differences Cody discusses in the video:
1. Material
2. Cross Slot Design
3. Height
4. Anodizing

Material
Our Standard Picatinny rails are machined from an extruded piece of 6061 aluminum. They are a great choice for budget minded buyers and customers looking for the lightest weight option.
Our HD Picatinny rails are machine from a billet block of 7075 T6 aluminum. 7075 is 84% stronger tensile strength and is 71% stronger strength to weight ratio.
Our Steel Picatinny rail is machined from 4140 steel and is the strongest of the options. We only make a select number of mounts in steel though.

Cross Slots
The Standard Picatinny rail has what we refer to as “Dog Ears” machined down the length of the rail. This is different from standard 1913 Picatinny because it does not have a full width cross slot. This only affects usability with quick disconnect rings. We recommend using quick disconnect rings with our HD aluminum and steel scope mounts because they have full width cross slots.

Rail Height
Our Standard Picatinny rails are typically .400” high, our HD Picatinny rails are typically .35” high. This is measured at the front receiver ring. Not all of our mounts are able to be made to this height, some of them are a little taller like the CZ 452/457 rail.

Anodizing
Our Standard rails use type 1 matte black anodizing and our HD rails are type 3 hardcoat anodized. Our Steel rails are parkerized to help prevent rusting.
