Title: Revelation: Heaven: Royal Court Pt 1 Text: Revelation 4:1-11 Vital Verse: “Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created.” Revelation 4:11 Nuggets to Nibble: Chapters four and five shift from the seven churches of Asia Minor to the divine magnificence of the heaven court. The scene anticipates humanity's final judgment. Paradise lost returns to paradise restored. John receives a resounding call to "come up here" to see the things that will occur (Revelation 4:1). The faithful apostle who remained committed to the "word of God and the testimony of Jesus" receives supernatural access (Revelation 1:9). John's vision translates him to an "open door" in heaven that allows him to peer into the presence of the "One sitting on the throne" (Revelation 4:1-2). Unspeakable radiance surrounds the Father that John likens to a precious mineral of nature: jasper stone and a sardius appearance, with a rainbow around the throne with an emerald appearance (Revelation 4:3). Additionally, twenty-four elders with "white garments and crowns" along with four living creatures "full of eyes in front and behind" are prominently featured around the throne (Revelation 4:4, 6-7). Obviously, what John sees is no ordinary throne with "seven lamps of fire burning before the throne" and something like "a sea of glass, like crystal" combined with "flashes of lightning and sounds and peals of thunder" that emanate from the seat of supreme power (Revelation 4:5-6). Although select members of the royal court possess a peculiar appearance, every creature offers praise and worship to the One on the throne (Revelation 4:8-11). John's revelation of heaven assures the reader that the domain of God consists of splendid majesty and a perpetual cacophony of praise and worship. Outline of Text 1.
