After the high-stakes Trump–Zelenskyy meeting in presence of top European leaders at White House on August 18, French President dialled PM Modi on August 21. PM Modi received a phone call from President Macron and exchanged views on ongoing efforts for the peaceful resolution of conflicts in Ukraine and the West Asia region. President Macron shared his assessment of the recent meetings held between the leaders of Europe, the US and Ukraine in Washington. He also conveyed his perspectives on the situation in Gaza. Responding to his concerns, PM Modi reiterated India’s consistent support for the peaceful resolution of conflicts and the early restoration of peace and stability. Informing the world about the telephonic conversation, PM Modi wrote on X “Had a very good conversation with my friend President Macron.” He further added, “Exchanged views on efforts for the peaceful resolution of conflicts in Ukraine and in West Asia.”French President Macron also spoke about the call, saying, “We agreed to strengthen our economic exchanges and our strategic partnership in all areas.”The leaders also reviewed progress in the bilateral cooperation agenda, including in the areas of trade, defence, civil nuclear cooperation, technology, and energy.They reaffirmed commitment to strengthening the India–France Strategic Partnership and marking 2026 as the ‘Year of Innovation. President Macron also conveyed his support for the early conclusion of the Free Trade Agreement between India and the EU. The leaders agreed to stay in touch and work closely ahead of France’s G7 and India’s BRICS presidencies in 2026.
