President Trump is assigning 20 military attorneys from the JAG Corps to work with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington, D.C., taking on civilian cases as part of efforts to bolster local law enforcement.

The move, confirmed by D.C. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro, is unusual since JAG attorneys typically handle military matters.

The office has faced staffing shortages, worsened by recent firings and resignations, including prosecutors involved in January 6 riot cases, prompting the administration to supplement the workforce amid heightened focus on crime in the capital, The Hill has reported.
