Sen. Eric Schmitt: The Future of the Democrat Party

Sen. Eric Schmitt: I don’t think they’ve hit rock bottom yet. Well, actually, I think if you look at the people filling the arenas, it’s Bernie Sanders, it’s AOC, it’s this Mandami guy who is literally a communist running. He’s probably going to be the mayor of New York, that’s what it looks like.

So I think they’re still searching. They don’t have a message. They don’t have a messenger. They’re still obsessed with President Trump, with Trump-Trump syndrome. They haven’t learned anything from the last time with all of this.

And, you know, things that used to exist. I mean, there used to be, by the way, a Washington consensus, which isn’t always good — usually it’s a bad thing. But there used to be a kind of belief that borders mattered. I don’t think they believe that anymore.

In a recent interview, Schmitt was blunt: “Today’s Democratic Party is unrecognizable compared to Harry Truman’s,” as he believes it has been captured by the elites of the radical left. He mentioned that Democrats have adopted rhetoric attacking ICE agents and promoting “defund the police,” even in relation to relatively uncontroversial security measures. For him, this demonstrates a departure from common sense, which, he said, was reflected in the 2024 mandate and in Trump’s inaugural address.

He concluded that Democrats have lost all connection with the working class and now represent the “80-20” concerns of the 20 percent. Additionally, in an interview with Fox News Digital, Schmitt accused “the left” of having “taken control” of the Democratic Party, which, in his view, is preventing the Senate from properly addressing important issues such as aid to Israel, Ukraine, or border security.
