Homeowner Kills Three Teens in Attempted Robbery

Conyers, Georgia

Facts:
On September 16, 2019, at around 4 a.m., three masked teens—a 15-year-old and two 16-year-olds—approached three residents in the front yard of a home outside Conyers. The teens attempted to rob them, with one firing a gun at the residents.

One resident returned fire, striking all three teens. One died at the scene, and the other two succumbed to their injuries at a local hospital.

Neighbors heard gunshots and screams for help. One resident reported hearing a victim yell, “Help me, I’m dying,” while another described hearing initial handgun shots followed by a barrage from what sounded like an assault rifle.

The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident as a potential “stand-your-ground” case under Georgia’s self-defense laws. No arrests or charges have been filed against the resident, who believed deadly force was necessary to prevent harm.

The teens were from the area but not the neighborhood. Georgia law allows deadly force if reasonably believed necessary to prevent death, injury, or a forcible felony, with no duty to retreat.

The victims of the attempted robbery were uninjured. The investigation continues, with authorities examining self-defense claims and witness statements.
