Jacky the Shadow is the 2nd song from, The Madman. We are introduced to the central charters “Imaginary Friend.” In the novel we find out that he is not a figment, but an actual spirit from the depths of Hell and Madness. Its purpose is to haunt people and whisper in their mind. To encourage them to do atrocious acts. Thus securing the individual's damnation.
After countless millennia of performing this act. Jack is bonded to our central charter, Cross. A person who is already quite mad. Who also has a unique lineage. Jacky goes through a change. Deciding to educate and protect this madman instead of damning him.
The adventure begins after an act of vengeance and the two walk through the planes of existence. On a quest to find Crosses' dead lover, April. They find traveling companions and end up in a cosmic battle.
Jacky the Shadow is Crosses' closest companion, I can not say friend. Mainly due to Jackie's nature. It doesn't always have Cross's best interest. However it will warn and defend him. It’s fed by his tortured souls' sufferings and victories.
Musically the entire song is played at a steady tempo. It follows the very basic rules of verse, chorus, verse, chorus, verse, chorus.
Lyrically for its poetry I drew on every horror I could to define the nature of Jacky. I really enjoy playing this song. Even my own inner madness loves to rock out to this song. It’s dark, disturbing, and sharpened to a razor's edge.
