Without foreign media on the ground and no internet almost every clip had to be filmed by civilians while under fire. For every scene caught on camera, countless others remain unseen, but even so there's many more on the internet I could not possibly use because this compilation is overcrowded as it is.
Set to The Cranberries’ haunting anti-war anthem Zombie, the footage connects the numbness of endless violence to this century-long tragedy. The song’s “1916” lyric could just as easily be “1917,” marking the Balfour Declaration — when Britain pledged a “national home” — or “1947,” the UN partition that set the stage for decades of dispossession.
Credits should go to The Cranberries and Gaza2019documentary film directed by Irish filmmakers Garry Keane and Andrew McConnell, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. And those who sent the videos from such locations. I just put it together.
