Proverbs 7 | Wisdom vs. Seduction | Song of Wisdom

✨ Proverbs 7 is one of the most vivid and sobering warnings in all of Scripture. It is the cry of a father to his son — but also the voice of the Spirit to every believer — to guard the heart with wisdom and to stay far from the path of temptation.

Here, Solomon paints a dramatic scene: a naïve young man wanders into the night and is enticed by the flattering words of an adulteress. She promises pleasure, secrecy, and satisfaction — but the end is destruction. Scripture says he follows her “as an ox goes to the slaughter… until an arrow strikes through his liver” (v. 22–23). What looked like freedom becomes a snare of death.

The lesson is timeless: sin is never neutral. The enemy always disguises death with perfume, flattery, and promises of fulfillment. But in the end, the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). Her house is “the way to Sheol, going down to the rooms of death” (v. 27).

Yet the wisdom of God is given as protection. To treasure His Word — binding it on our hearts, guarding it as the apple of our eye — is to have armor against deception. When wisdom becomes our sister and understanding our closest relative, we will recognize the counterfeit for what it is and turn aside from the path of destruction.

Proverbs 7 is not just about sexual sin — it represents every form of seduction: pride, greed, idolatry, compromise. The enemy still whispers, “No one will see, no one will know. Come, let us take our fill until morning.” But the Spirit calls us higher: “Keep My commandments and live!” (v. 2).

Proverbs 7 (WEB):
1 My son, keep my words. Lay up my commandments within you.
2 Keep my commandments and live! Guard my teaching as the apple of your eye.
3 Bind them on your fingers. Write them on the tablet of your heart.

🎸 Lyrics – The House of Death

[Intro – Driving riff]
My son, keep my words.
Lay up my commandments within you.
Keep my commandments and live!
Guard my teaching as the apple of your eye…

[Verse 2]
Bind them on your fingers.
Write them on the tablet of your heart.
Tell wisdom, “You are my sister.”
Call understanding your relative…
That they may keep you from the strange woman,
From the foreigner who flatters with her words.

[Chorus]
Her house is the way to Sheol…
Going down, going down, to the rooms of death!
Her slain are a mighty army…
Don’t turn your heart, don’t walk that path!

[Verse 3]
For at the window of my house,
I looked out through my lattice.
I saw among the simple ones,
I discerned among the youths,
A young man void of understanding.

[Verse 4]
Passing through the street near her corner…
He went the way to her house,
In the twilight, in the evening of the day,
In the middle of the night, in the darkness.

[Bridge – Funky, building tension]
Behold! A woman met him,
With the attire of a prostitute, and crafty intent.
She is loud and defiant,
Her feet don’t stay in her house.
Now in the streets, now in the squares,
Lurking at every corner!

[Breakdown – Funk Blues riff]
So she caught him, and kissed him!
With an impudent face she said:

[Verse 5 – Spoken]
“Sacrifices of peace offerings are with me,
Today I have paid my vows.
Therefore I came out to meet you,
To diligently seek your face…
And I have found you!”

[Verse 6]
“I have spread my couch with carpets of tapestry,
With striped cloths of the yarn of Egypt.
I have perfumed my bed
With myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.

Come, let’s take our fill of loving until the morning.
Let’s solace ourselves with loving!
For my husband isn’t at home.
He has gone on a long journey.
He has taken a bag of money with him,
He will come home at the full moon.”

[Verse 7 – Rising power]
With persuasive words, she led him astray.
With the flattering of her lips, she seduced him.
He followed her immediately,
As an ox goes to the slaughter,
As a fool stepping into a noose…

[Bridge – Dark Groove]
Until an arrow strikes through his liver,
As a bird hurries to the snare,
And doesn’t know, doesn’t know,
That it will cost him his life!

[Chorus – Hard Rock Power]
Her house is the way to Sheol…
Going down, going down, to the rooms of death!
Her slain are a mighty army…
Don’t turn your heart, don’t walk that path!

[Outro]
Now therefore, sons, listen to me.
Pay attention to the words of my mouth.
Don’t let your heart turn to her ways.
Don’t go astray in her paths!
For she has thrown down many wounded…
Yes, all her slain are a mighty army.
Her house is the way to Sheol…
Going down, going down, to the rooms of death!
